Silk tattoos

My friend and I like to go to Hongdae on the weekends and we’re always finding fun things to do. Even though the area is targeted towards university students and we’ve already graduated, people in their late 20s to early 30s still go there to eat at the restaurants and watch the street performers. While walking around one night, we stumbled upon various tables set up for silk tattoos. These tattoos last from 7-10 days and run from ₩3,000 – ₩7,000 ($2.50-$6.50 USD).

Silk tattoo process

First, they use a glue stick to glue the edges of your selected stencil to your skin. Then, they apply a black paste with a flat stick and rub it in for around 5 minutes. Your skin will feel a little numb, but it was actually quite soothing. When they’ve done it enough to form a solid outline on your skin, they slowly peel the stencil off and use a fan to dry it. And that’s it!

Hippo silk tattoo

I got the cat outline and my friend got a hippo~ Everyone at my job thought it was real! I recommend getting one if you want an authentic-looking tattoo for a short-period of time. ^^ These stands can be found along 홍대걷고싶은거리 or “Hongdae’s pedestrian-friendly road” starting around 8 P.M. I’ve only been to Hongdae on the weekends, so I’m not sure if they’re around during the week.
